LUCERA
: we suggest the visit to the Ruggero Bonghi
Library which the most ancient public library of
Puglia, opened in 1817.
FORESTA UMBRA:
it is possible to see this wide and wild forest
of beech alternated to Turkey oaks and the
secular badgers, thistles and bluebells; to meet
roe-deers, deers, the wild cat and birds like
the Lilfors woodpecker, the tawny own, the
sparrowhauk, and the ring-dove. Indicated
itinerary can be covered on foot or by bike,
they are short tours, that do not require a
particular training, but only the respect of the
nature.
CASTEL DEL MONTE :
located on a hill that dominates a wide area, it
is famous for its octagonal shape with octagonal
eight towers at its corners.
BARI
: .in the Diocesan Museum the illuminated rolls
of some Esultet, of the 1000, are kept. The
parchment paper were read and opened during the
liturgies, in particular the eastern liturgy;
the illuminated are often upside down with the
text so that the faithful could watch them while
the priest was reading them
ALBEROBELLO :according
to the tradition, the birth of this town and the
spreading of this buildings were due to a
measure of Girolamo II di Acquaviva, cont of
Conversano in the 17th century, that exempted
from taxes the buildings covered with dry
materials. In Sacramento Square there is the
Trullo Sovrano, the only two floors trullo, that
was built in the ‘700.
MATERA
: the Sassi are ancient habitations dug in the
tufa, some of them with a front wall, one above
another on the walls of a deep cleft. Already
inhabited in the stone era, they were occupied
till some years ago. This is why Matera is
considered one of the most ancient towns in the
world.
ISOLE
TREMITI :22 km from the Gargano, the
Tremiti archipelagos is composed by three major
islands: San Domino, Caparra and San Nicola.
Back in time they were called Insulae Diomedeae
to honor the hero Diomede, that according to the
legend was buried here after Troia defeat.
Inhabited during the year from 400 people, the
Tremiti are also a touristic place because of
the clear waters and the indented coasts rich of
cove creeks and grottos.

1 day
“Manfredonia”
Gathering
of the participants in the meeting place. Departure for
Puglia in the morning. Stop for free time for lunch. .
Arrival in Puglia in the evening. Meeting with our tour
guide, check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
2
day“Manfredonia, Troia and Lucera”
Breakfast, departure to see Manfredonia, a city founded by
the kings Manfredi. Visit of the castle started by the King
Svevo and completed by Carlo I D’Angiò, nowadays seat of the
national archaeological museum of Gargano, where the famous
stalae Daune, which are exceptionally important for the
studies on Italian prehistory, are kept. Next we will go to
Troia to visit the Cathedral, maximum expression of the
Romanic architecture of Puglia. We will head to Lucerna, one
of Federico II fauvorite’s towns. Visit of the Castle, built
by the emperor Svevo in a dominant position to guard the
tableland and the subappennino. At the heart of the town you
will find the Duomo, constructed by Angioini. In the late
afternoon return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
3 day “Manfredonia, Woods in Umbria, Monte Sant’Angelo and
San Giovanni Rotondo”
Breakfast
and departure for the Woods in Umbria, which is a wide
wooded area whose flora and fauna are still intact. Short
stop in the deer park and then departure to Monte Sant’Angelo,
an important Christian cult centre, known thanks to the
apparitions of the Archangel Michele. Visit of the Shrine,
the Castel, the tomb of Rotari di Santa Maria Maggiora, walk
down the rione Juno. A characteristic medieval village. In
the afternoon departure for San Giovanni Rotondo, a small
town famous thanks to Santo Padre Pio, a friar of the
Cappuccini order. Visit to the places where he lived and
worked. In the evening return for dinner and overnight stay.
4 day “Manfredonia, Trani, Castel Mont and Bari ”
Breakfast. Departure to Bari across the Coast. Stop in
Trani, an important medieval sea centre and wine centre
nowadays. Next we will go to Castel del Monte, located above
the walls. After the visit of this town, we will head to
Bari. Visit of this town, composed of an old part with
Byzantine origins and a new part born in 1800. Visit of the
main monuments: Piazza della Libertà, the Cathedral, the
Castel, Piazza San Nicola, etc. After the visit of Bari
return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
5 day “Manfredonia, Alberobello, Castellana and Matera
”
Breakfast.
Departure to visit Alberobello, the city of trulli, typical
dry constructions with a circular blueprint and a conic roof,
today protected by Unesco. Next we will go to Castellana,
famous thanks to the beautiful and charming grottos; a
spelaeologic complex discovered in 1938. They’re spectacular
because of the great quantity of stalagmite and stalactites.
In the afternoon we will go to Matera, to visit both the
town and the “sassi” (rocks), a very ancient form installed,
protected by Unesco. Return to the hotel in the evening for
dinner and overnight stay.

day “Manfredonia and the Isole Tremiti”
Breakfast.
The whole day will be dedicated to a boat tour of the
Tremiti islands, interesting for its cliffs picturesque
aspects. Stop at San Domino, the most beautiful island of
the group, mostly covered by pine-woods. In the indented
coasts of the island, wonderful grottos and re-entrance’s
open to offer spectacular colour games, such as the “grotto
of violet” and the “grotto of morays”. We will then go to
San Nicola, historical centre of this group of islands. The
island of San Nicola, the most important island of the group
from an historical point of view, is dominated by the
imposing remains of the abbatial buildings of S.Maria, and
hides, inside its walls, a fortified castle-convent. Return
to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight
stay.
7 day “Return ”
Breakfast. Check out. Morning departure to go back to
Sorrento. Stop for free time for lunch. The journey will
proceed for the final meeting. End of services.
